Pharoahe Monch Finished With Ghostwriting, Plans To Release “W.A.R.” Upgrade For Free

Pharoahe Monch has lent his pen to artists in need of some better lyrics in the past, but he’s finished with ghostwriting. Speaking with TaleTela, the Queens, New York native explained that providing Diddy with rhymes for 2006’s Press Play was the last time he would ever take a check for helping others with their writing.

“That’ll probably be the last time I ever do it,” he said. “Why’s that? Because it’s such a gut-wrenching process. You have to do your best but yet you have to then part with it. […]I’m done with that. Plus, because of the shift in the economy, in terms of beats there aren’t too many people that can pay a premium for that shit.”

With his latest W.A.R. (We Are Renegades) in stores now, Monch is working on his next album and is coming up with ideas for an “upgrade” of the album that he wants to give away for free.

“I wanna start working on some ideas for this ‘W.A.R.’ upgrade that I want to give out for free,” he said. “Hopefully this summer and there are no restraints as we’re just gonna put it out there for free.”

    1. Pharoahe’s the truth. More news on real artists such as him instead of Big Sean, Drake and the likes that say nothing but how they spawned a style already out there, bought a Winnie The Pooh book to inspire an album, etc.

    2. Don’t understand why he would give it away for free, because I doubt he sold too many units of the original anyway.
Monch deserves alot more, although I think he’s learning not to take too much time between albums his shit needs to get to the ears of the people and love it or not the people love that free music!

    4. he said in an interview earlier this year that he had been recently ghost writing for someone else, he said that it was for the son of someone famous

    5. W.A.R. ‘upgrade’? How about taking off some of the lousy guests (Jean Fucking Grae, complaining as always, please) and replacing them with more Monch?

    6. work on a new album, you fucking clown. i notice pharoahe acts like a real butt pirate these days, rocking scarves and gay ass haircut. and he rolls heavy with that battle rhyme dike, jean grae. this dude really thinks he’s changing the world with his current music, when in reality, he’s disappointing a lot of his old fans. listen to a pharoahe monch interview from the past cpl years, self important douche that could easily be mistaken for a homosexual. monch, wake up. for an album titled WAR, shit sure was soft. like, 2 hard beats, total. lame album, from a lost legend.

    7. It’s not that Jean Grae is homosexual– I don’t believe she is– but that she’s a wack ass female battle rapper, mostly. And when she’s not whining battle rap, she’s COMPLAINING.

Just like with whiny Joell Ortiz, it’s always someone else’s fault, never theirs.

      1. i hate female rappers in general. but i especially hate female rappers that try to sound “hard”, like jean grae. she raps like a man, she wants to be one of the fellas. she’s a stink puss vegan dike rolling with gay ass monch and kweli. in her mind, she should be the biggest female rapper of all time, not realizing she has zero star power and no likability. jean grae = lisa leslie, thinks she can play in the L, till shaq dunks on her.

      2. Are you serious Jean Grae is good, so is MC Lyte, Yo-Yo & Queen Latifah used to be good. Just because you don’t like their voice doesn’t mean their not good. It’s this mentality that makes it so difficult for a woman emcee to get popular unless they’re all about being sexual (Lil Kim & Nicki Minaj) now those are terrible rappers Lil Kim only sounded good when Biggie wrote her rhymes.
