Gee Roberson has been selected as chairman of Geffen Records, according to Billboard. Roberson is known as the CEO of Hip Hop Since 1978, a firm that manages artists including Kanye West and Lil Wayne, among other noteworthy names in Hip Hop.
Roberson received words of praise from Geffen A&M chairman Jimmy Iovine, who he will be reporting to.
“Gee has a unique combination of talents that the music industry really needs running a record company today,” he said in a statement.
Roberson originally worked with Roc-A-Fella Records. He become the senior vice president of A&R there before working for Atlantic Records.

Roberson has not expressed whether he would or would not continue his work with Hip Hop Since 1978. The firm has managed Drake, Just Blaze, Young Jeezy and others.
