This past weekend, all of Cheri Media’s web properties, including HipHopDX, were offline for approximately 48 hours: from 10:00am 4/29/11 to 1:30pm 5/1/11 (PST). While we were conducting a server migration on Friday morning, our service-provider’s cloud system shut down, leaving our content database offline and unreachable for most of the weekend. Most users could still access the website, but HipHopDX writers and editors were unable to publish new content, and many users could not access the mobile version of HipHopDX.

We are very, very sorry for this interruption in service. While we were able to report on this interruption through our reader feedback page, Twitter, and Facebook, that’s a small consolation when you want the latest Hip Hop news and music right now.

Naturally, we’re going to have a long, serious talk with our service provider (Rackspace). They’re supposed to be the best in the business, but in this instance they failed us, so we in turn failed you. We’ll do everything we can to make sure that something as simple as migrating data to a faster server doesn’t shut down our publication for two days.

Again, we are very sorry for this interruption. This is not how Fridays, or weekends, are supposed to be.
