Common will star in an upcoming independent film titled L.U.V.

The movie follows the life of William “Woody” Watson, played by Michael Rainey, Jr., a 13-year-old in search of a family and better life. The emcee will play the role of Woody’s ex-con uncle Vincent. Woody will look to his uncle as a father figure, who hopes to lead a legitimate life but finds trouble doing so.

“Vincent is a uniquely conflicted character,” said Common in a press release.  “I found an appeal in his desire to move past his failures and onto the right track, and the challenges that presents.”
