One of the most successful father/son Hip Hop tandems may be Peter Gunz and Cory Gunz. The Bronx, New York emcees have both enjoyed major label record contracts, as 23 year-old Cory readies his debut album with Young Money Records, reportedly called The Commencement.

Father Peter scored a Columbia Records platinum hit in 1997, “Deja Vu (Uptown Baby)” with partner Lord Tariq from their lone album, ’98’s Make It Reign.

Although Cory has yet to deliver a debut, the artist has been working for the last seven-plus years, changing labels and recording constantly. In an interview with The New York Daily News, Peter revealed that at one point, he urged his son to reconsider his ambitions. Before noting that his son was “ready to give up,” Peter said, “I didn’t want him in the music business…one minute you’re hot, and the next, you’re not. Most people can’t handle that.”
