Two years ago, famed Hip Hop music video director Rik Cordero debuted his first feature film Inside a Change to numerous accolades and awards. Now, the Queens-bred director is tackingling his sophomore feature, a thriller titled Starla.
Written by Aaron F. Schnore and Billy Fox, the film follows a woman Katie Wilson who uses long distance running to cope with her crumbling marriage and the death of her daughter Starla during a botched surgery. Yet Wilson soon learns the terrible truth about her daughter’s death, and she is forced to contend with the horrors of physical obsession.
The film features actors Nancy Mitchell, Brendan Brandt, Maya Days and Seth Abrams, with whom Cordero worked on his debut film. Starla is currently filming and is set for a summer 2011 release. More info about the film can be found at Cordero’s production company’s website.
Cordero has directed numerous music videos with a variety of Hip Hop artists, including the Roots, Rick Ross, Slaughterhouse and the Wu-Tang Clan. His first film Inside a Change also went on to win the best picture award at the 2009 HBO New York International Latino Film Festival.
