Maybach Music Group shook the Hip Hop landscape when it signed both Wale and Meek Mill. Now the label’s founder, Rick Ross, is planning on bringing a female’s touch to Maybach. Soulful singer Teedra Moses may also join the lineup. She explained to Vibe.com how a message from Ross on Twitter has resulted in talks of her signing.
“[One night] I look at my [Direct Messages] and I see that Rick Ross hits me and was like, ‘Who you signed to? I’m doing this company…’ blah blah blah. I’m like ‘Cool!’ He likes my music and that always makes you feel good when your peers acknowledge that you’re good too.” That initial conversation has led to frequent correspondence between the two. Moses says that she will be featured on the Maybach Music compilation, Self Made.
In other news, Russel Simmons was honored with a GLAAD Award on Saturday night. GLAAD President Jarrett Barrios said, “This year’s honorees, nominees, and award recipients represent diverse stories that are about building acceptance and understanding about [the gay community] through their excellent work.”
In accepting his award from Rev. Al Sharpton, Simmons said, “I’m humbled having one of my heroes and mentors, Rev. Al Sharpton, giving me this award. This is for all of us who step outside of our comfort zone and fight for the rights of others.”
