One of Cali’s most innovative underground crews is experiencing the troubles of the record industry. Ugly Duckling just have one album out Journey to Anywhere, but their style has turned the heads of many a backpacker. The only problem is, you can’t really get the album anywhere.
The group was signed to an Internet company called Riffage, which made their debut LP availablefor two weeks, then went under. Now, the company is giving Ugly Duckling some grief about letting them out of the contract. “Basically, they’re being real assholes about everything,” said Ugly Duckling’s Dizzy Dustan.
The group plays Toronto this Thursday, with the Pharcyde (2 of them at least) and Checkmate.
