Virginia rapper Skillz has stepped into the world of acting with Byron a movie he both stars in and wrote. Byron focuses on Dee, a character played by Skillz, who is striving to better himself although he still deals drugs.
“It’s just about circumstances and life. When people end up meeting each other and inevitably their whole lives change,” Skillz explained to AllHipHop.com in a statement. “It’s just some things in life that you can’t change.”
Byron premiered last night at Virginia’s Cinema Café.
Hip Hop history was made earlier this week when Michael Kyser was named as the first President of Black Music for the Atlantic Records Group. The announcement was made on Thursday, February 3 by Atlantic Records’ Julie Greenwald and Craig Kallman.
“To say that this is a dream come true is an understatement. The heritage of black music at Atlantic Records is second to none in this industry, and it is both humbling and thrilling to take on this new post at a label with such an amazing legacy,” said Kyser, according to AllHipHop.com. “To be a part of the birth of the new Atlantic over the past seven years has been an extraordinary experience.”
Prior to his new position Kyser served as Executive Vice President of Urban Music. With a lengthy track record in music Kyser has worked with a number of artists including Jay-Z, T.I., and LL Cool J.
The 14-track LP shortly follows the release of the producers Me Gusto EP last year. Ceremony will be released on May 10 via Innovative Leisure.
