Today, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania singer Bilal released a new video, “Levels,” from last year’s Airtight’s Revenge album. The west coast-based singer spoke briefly to HipHopDX about the song, as well as his recent Grammy nomination for the album’s single, “Little One.”

“The song was created at Shafiq Husayn‘s house [as] very much an experiment,” said Bilal yesterday. “[As far as] the video, I just let [Flying Lotus] do his thing. I like what he was talking about – other worldly.” The singer, who was recently paid tribute in DJ Premier and Joell Ortiz’ “Sing Like Bilal” song, said that he hopes to collaborate more with DXnext alum, Flying Lotus in the future, musically. The producer directed Bilal’s video for this collab.

As far as “Little One,” the singer was also asked if this Grammy nod was at all different than his previous two. “I guess it does [feel different],” began the veteran songwriter. “But I don’t really make music in that kind of light. But, this one means more, ’cause of my family.” “Little One” was written about Bilal’s two young sons, the older has severe Autism, and the younger lives with Sickle Cell Anemia.

With the new year ahead, Bilal spoke about his 2011 plans consisting of “Lots of touring,” and continued, “I’m always making new music.”
