Yelawolf Shares Excitement Over Shady Records Deal

Earlier this month, we reported on the official word that Shady Records signed new talent to its roster. While the Slaughterhouse brethren made speculation a reality, Yelawolf also joined Eminem’s squad. Recently, Yelawolf opened up about this signing with Vibe, admitting that the toughest part has been keeping quiet about the business end of things.

“Keeping quiet was the hardest shit in the world, honestly,” Yela told Vibe. “I was just so excited for a while. And everyone from my team who did know was really responsible about not letting it out. But I met with Eminem about four to five months ago in Detroit. Paul and Em flew me and my manager out to just kick it and get acquainted. From that meeting, I had no idea it would turn into this situation. I remember Paul was asking me about the meth problem in Alabama and I told him that I wrote ‘Pop The Trunk’ based off that issue. Next thing I know, Em starts rapping some of my lines from the song. I can’t even describe how that felt, I actually got super nervous. Em’s a real hip-hop fan, he knows about everything that’s going on.”

He also spoke on what the signing is allowing him to do, saying this new album will “let everyone know why I’m Shady.”

“We kicked it a couple times but we haven’t laid anything down yet. But I think we’re supposed to go to Detroit next week, so it’s coming. Just wait. I already know the pressure is there but if I let that shit get to me, it’ll affect my music. A lot of rappers have this obsession with staying underground, but I want to take it to the stadium level. We’ve been sitting on records for like four years that we knew were too big for a mixtape. So I’m just focused on writing a great album right now. That’s why I’m calling it Radioactive because I want to personally challenge myself and the industry. It’s a metaphor for my version of radio records. Now, it’s just time to put out a major album and let everyone know why I’m Shady.”

    1. I like this dude! He just does him( with a little Chi-town twista twist) but shit at leat he’s true to it.

    2. trunk muzik was the truth… looking forward to the next phase of shady. I like Obie too, but for business getting rid of obie was smart. He was never going to sell the same again. Now he’s got two new acts with tremendous buzz.

    3. This is a great move for Shady/Aftermath.
But Obie Trice and Stat Quo should get a spot on the label too.
Royce Da 5’9″, Eminem, Obie Trice & Big Sean.

    4. Yelawolf has a voice that has hit making potential…. I can see him linking up with
shady being a sick ass move for him. That nigga done came up man, Alabama stand the fuck up!

    5. I didnt like Yelawolf at all on first listen…But then I downloaded trunk music and listened in headphones and heard the damn bass going on in his music…Thought his flow was off as fuck before but when you hear the bass you can hear how his flow matches each bass hit perfectly. Definitely a good sign on shadys part and I normally cant stand white rappers.

    6. WHAT A SELLOUT! Yelawolf sold his soul to the devil. How can you make a great song like I Just Wanna Party featuring our Lord and Rap Savior Gucci Mane and then betray him. Yelawolf is the Judas of the Rap Game. Repent to the Lord Gucci Mane.

      It’s Gucci Time!

    7. GUCCI MANE the wackest rapper of all times!!Fuck him and all his affiliates and fans!Die slowly Supergucciretard!!
