Making it in Hip Hop is a difficult task, sometimes seemingly impossible. A lot of people trying to do it are flying blind, trying to learn the industry as they go. Giving these young, inexperienced talents some insight, while also laying out how to stay on top once you get there was the purpose behind Demos, a new documentary film. The movie was the work Kareem Fort and Kevin Nottingham, the C.O.O. and C.E.O., respectively, of HiPNOTT Records.
The film intends to answer some of the most common questions posed by artists from all statuses inside the world of rap. Questions like, “‘How do I stand out from the countless other artists trying to make it?’, ‘Should I put out a mixtape or an album first?’, ‘Do I need a booking agent?’, ‘How do I build my brand and create an image?’, ‘How can I get sponsorship for shows and tours?’” To answer these questions the filmmakers have enlisted an impressive panel including, Talib Kweli, Naughty By Nature, Pete Rock & CL Smooth, Carl Choi, Rapper Big Pooh, Da Beatminerz, Jean Grae, Tony Rock, Asya Shein, Statik Selektah, Dumbfoundead, Mac Miller.
Demos is scheduled for release this summer, for more information including upcoming promotional contests and events check out the film’s website. To view the trailer go here.
