DJ Premier Talks About Guru’s Funeral, The Letter

After Guru passed and a letter supposedly written by him was released making disparaging remarks about his longtime partner, DJ Premier took the high road. Preme sat down with Rap Fix and talked about the letter some more, as well as Guru’s private funeral.

“The letter didn’t exist, which I didn’t… I wasn’t worried about that anyway, “said Primo. “Even if he did write that letter, I know how he writes. I’ve been around this guy for 23 years. I know everything about him and I know his family real well and they’re down with me, they ride with me.”

Primo also spoke about Guru’s funeral in which he and original Gang Starr member Big Shug eulogized Gifted Unlimited. “We had a private funeral with his remains there and [I] spoke at the funeral,” shared the prolific producer. “It was a lovely ceremony. I did everything from the heart off my head, which is how you’re supposed to do it.”

    1. Fuck Solar for writing that phony letter. Bitch ass better be hiding in a cave with Osama after this stunt he pulled. RIP Guru.

    2. RIP Guru. Gang Starr for life, big props to DJ Premier for keeping it real as well. That dude seems so humble.

      Oh, and FUCK solar.

    3. I love how preme just shakes off the fact that the guy didnt even reach out to him on his death bed, sounds like a guy who didnt wanna make peace to me

But its primo so he’ll be the good guy regardless

Guru turns in his grave at the thought of a new Gang Starr album

Show some fuckin respect for the dead man, for real, dude didnt like you, he was dissing you in europe a month before he died, and thats why Freddie Foxx dropped that “81 bars of Murder” diss record on Guru(Youtube it)

But like I said, its Primo so he’ll just gte the pass, SMH

      1. As if you know jack shit about this situation. I bet you didn’t even read Brownman’s interview about the last five years of Guru’s life.

      2. @ Asee

I know all I need to know, Guru was dyig and he didnt take the time to talk to dude, thats all you need to know the Friendship was dead…….

But its all good, Primo is Primo so he can do what he wants, including disrespect the dead……… After all, he’s primo!!!!!

      3. he didn’t take the time to talk to his family either. he wasn’t “allowed” to. premo’s true character will be made evident depending on what he does with the money made with the upcoming gangstarr album.

      6. For all we know, Guru might have trid to reach out to Preme but Solar might have blocked it. If he was willing to fake a letter, who knows what else he might have tried to do. He might have told Solar to call Preme up and tell him to come by and he just never did….who knows. The only man that really knows is dead and gone.

    4. if guru and primo had beed that’s one thing, but for solar to fake a letter of a dying man for hsi own personal benitit is unforgivable

    5. Guru was a huge inspiration in my writing, I used to tell people that GURU, BIG PUN, CORMEGA, AND TUPAC would be the perfect combination of emcee. Sad to hear of the circumstances around his death, not to mention the way he went out wasn’t any easier. HIS CONTRIBUTION TO HIP-HOP IS FAR BEYOND DISTASTEFUL INTERVIEWS, ARGUMENTS, HE SAID SHE SAID BULLSHIT, I’D RATHER REMEMBER HOW MY 2 YEAR OLD SON NODS HIS HEAD TO “FROM JFK 2 LAX” OR WHEN I’M IN A ROOM FILLED WITH PEOPLE LISTENING TO GARBAGE I’LL THROW ON “YOU KNOW MY STEEZ” OR WHEN I FIRST HEARD A CHIEF KAMACHI/GURU COLLABORATION, YOUR PRESENCE IS GREATLY MISSED AND WHETHER ITS A PREMO OR A SOLAR BEAT IT WAS THE MAN BEHIND THE MIC THAT MADE IT ALL TRULY SPECIAL
