9th Wonder and David Banner’s collaboration isn’t limited to their upcoming LP Death of a Pop Star. The duo is launching an anime comic strip in promotion for the album, which due in stores this December 21.
“Comics, sneakers, and Hip-Hop have always been close-knit with each other for years and years,” said 9th Wonder. “This comic strip will show you exactly how close the relationships between those entities are. Death of a Pop Star!” (AllHipHop.com)
The comic strip, which has the same title as the album it accompanies, finds the two artists living in the real world with super-human powers. The duo is forced to contend with a number of personal problems throughout the series, from growing up in an impoverished environment to dealing with issues of discipline.
David Banner told AllHipHop.com that he and 9th Wonder had always intended to make Death of a Popstar a multimedia release. He said that it is an artists duty to connect with the listener in as many unique ways as possible.

“The idea with Death of a Pop Star was never for it to be only an album,” Banner explained. “The aim of this project was to engage the consumer on many different levels. With the music industry being in the state it’s in, we as artists need to provide as much intriguing content as possible for our fans. The video for David Banner and 9th Wonder’s Ludacris and Marsha Ambrosius-assisted single “Be With You” is slated to debut this December 16 on MTV. The duo’s first installment of their comic can be read here.
