The last of Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Fridays continue to hit the web, most garnering favorable reviews from listeners. His recent Jay-Z collaboration “The Joy” featured Pete Rock on the production boards, in what was a soulful sample of Curtis Mayfield’s “Makings of You.”

“First I want to say ‘rest in peace’ to Curtis Mayfield,” Pete Rock told Vibe. “To reuse something that inspired us as kids–a song that my mom and dad listened to almost every other day is a great feeling.”

Rock revealed on Thursday that he produced “The Joy” almost fourteen years ago. “I had to bring that back and reintroduce it to the young generation. I want to say big-up to Kanye West and Jay-Z for getting on that beat. I actually had that beat since 1997. I’ve been sitting on it for years.”

“The Joy” will not appear on Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, which releases on Nov. 22, but Pete Rock did express his hopes to work with Kanye again in the future.
