Lil Wayne has not spent his eight month stint in jail idly. The contentious lyricist has kept a journal chronicling his thoughts and experiences while in prison. Young Money member Mack Maine toldThe Associated Press that this piece of work could be turned into a book.
Maine also said the journal contains new lyrics from Weezy, some of which may appear on Tha Carter IV. “There’s no word that I can think of that properly defines [these lyrics],” Wayne told fans in a letter. “Amazing would be too typical and perfect would be unfair.”
Although Wayne has been locked up for months, his public presence doesn’t seem to be dwindling. He is the first artist in 15 years to have a No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 while incarcerated. According to Nielsen, his album I Am Not a Human Being has sold over 323,000 copies since Sept. 27.
“The challenge was to make sure you feel like he never left,” said Cash Money exec, Birdman. “We came with a good strategy and it worked.”
