Pete Rock is regarded as one of the greatest producers of all-time, he’s worked with nearly every every legend; from Run-D.M.C. to Nas. But the Chocolate Boy Wonder had never produced for Jay-Z, something he’s wanted to do for some time.
Pete can now mark that off the list, as this weeks G.O.O.D. Friday track “The Joy ” featured himself on the boards and Jay-Z on the mic. The critically-acclaimed song provides a good example to fans unfamiliar with the legendary producer how he earned the nickname Soul Brother.
Yesterday the Mount Vernon native took to Twitter to express his excitement for being a part of the song, and to say thanks.
i would like to thank everyone of u on twitter for the support on “The Joy” it really makes me feel good about hip hop,u guys give me
inspiration ,real talk!! God Bless Yall! Shout to Jay-Z for helpin me reach my goal lol,now i can say i worked with the big homie! One!
Mecca & The Soul Brother, the seminal debut LP from Pete Rock & CL Smooth was recently re-released in a deluxe version. The two disc set features a remastered album, the second disc is loaded with 12″‘s, instrumentals and a capellas, plus a book with in-depth liner notes from the artists, A&R Dante Ross and Brian Coleman and a poster.
I am almost positive Pete Rock had a Jay-Z track before. Anyone recall Analyze This (Jay-Z, Nas, and Lord Tariq)? They prob didn’t get into the studio all together because of the Nas/Jay-Z beef but does this count as Jay on a Pete Rock track. It is classic and this new one is also dope.
I was gonna point out the same thing.
That song wasn’t really legit, the Jay and Tariq verses were taken from a Shaq song.
Well I’m sure that Jay can do at least one more joint with Pete Rock on Jay’s next album without Kanye on it…Kanye killed it but Jay still needs a solo joint with Pete like NAS already has…Stop being so damn stingy Jay and go do some more shit with Pete…Stop fuckin’ with these Soda Pop producers and go make some gritty hard hitting shit for once…
Pete Rock is my favorite producer of all time.

Lol at Pete Rock being so happy about producing for Jigga, dude is a legend in his own right though, I’m pretty sure Hov will do a track with Pete Rock again eventually
that track is the best of G.O.O.D fridays so far in my opinion
totally agree!!!!!!!!!
Shaq’s “No Love Lost” is actually the first time Jay rapped on a Pete Rock beat back in 96′. Difference is that beat was made specifically for Shaq, not Jay.
No Love Lost from Shaq’s album wasn’t produced by Pete Rock. That was TrackMasters actually.
C’mon Pete Rock man, stop it. Jay should be saying that about you, You legendary, you soundin lika a male groupie fam, not a good look on your part. I feel you happy, but you sound like you got a hit bigger than TROY right now SMH
and that track is aiight, it would have been better off with someone else rockin it
Yeah I don’t even like kanye’s raps
