Pop singer Michael Jackson’s classic music video “Thriller” may soon make its big screen debut if a few movie studios have their way.
MovieWeb.com reports that GK Films, Fox 2000, Lionsgate, and Summit Entertainment are all in the running for the rights to create their own film. When the rights are purchased “Thriller” will be made into a brand-new 3D movie.
This Is It’s Kenny Ortega will direct the film while the screenplay will be written by Jeremy Garelick. The budget for the film currently stands at $50 million.
Jackson and his lawyer, Brian Oxman, were both unpleased with the ruling which was made on Tuesday, October 26.
“This is not right,” said Oxman following the ruling, reports Billboard.com.
As a result of the denied bid both John Branca and John McClain will remain the executors of Jackson’s will. Following the singer’s death his estate has continued to make millions earning Jackson the title of “Top-Earning Dead Celebrity” by Forbes.
