A Well Versed Salute!

We wanted to congratulate former HipHopDX “Cot damn” Editor-In-Chief Andreas Hale on launching his TheWellVersed.com. Always in the know about Hip Hop, sports, technology and pop culture, Dre is a true O.G. within this journalism game and we wish his site much success. Many present and past DX contributors and bloggers are involved with this site, and we encourage each and every one of you to bookmark and soak up some game. We will be. The site’s been up for several weeks, but had its official launch in recent days. Check it out.

California Loves

The late, great esteemed emcee Notorious B.I.G. noted, “Cali, a great place to visit” on his 1997, Easy Mo Bee-produced joint, “Going Back To Cali.” We love the state and the song then, and we love it even more today. With a number of DX writers and staff living in the Bear Republic, we have California love of our own. Today Complex.com’s “Worldwide Wednesday” series profiled some truly lovely lady-friends, all born in the Golden State. It made our day better, and if you’re dragging, it may help yours today. Over the years, our staff has interviewed several of the women profiled, including the beautiful Rashida Jones, Meagan Good, Aubrey O’Day. While Sasha Grey’s publicist keeps us waiting every winter, we can say that it’s always a treat to visit New York’s EMI offices for the life-size Katy Perry portraits. Really though, shout out to Kristina Rose, self-proclaimed “L.A. face with an Oakland booty.” What’s more Cali than that?

Remembering Eyedea

The Los Angeles Times’ Jeff Weiss is one of the people writing about Hip Hop in the mainstream who we really respect (among many). We got the chance to meet Jeff in South By Southwest this year too (at the amazing Smoking Section x NahRight showcase), and he was a really cool person as well. Remembering Eyedea, Jeff quoted a number of writers who spoke about the tragically lost Rhymesayers emcee. We wanted to recognize Jeff’s work in this amazing profile of Eyedea, but also salute one of our own, Andres, who penned a heartfelt article (“Between The Lines: Remembering Eyedea”) through the night after learning of Eyedea’s death. Respect, love and gratitude to Eyedea.
