– One of the better “classic rap” lineups you will ever see is coming to Manhattan’s B.B. King’s Blues Club this Wednesday, October 20th. The show, being called Hip Hop Legends, will be headlined by Pete Rock & CL Smooth. In addition to that legendary duo the night will also see performances from Brand Nubian, Das EFX, The Beatnuts, Large Professor, and more. The concert is open to all ages and begins at 11 pm. Visit the event’s page to purchase tickets.
– The next night, Thursday October 21st, Philadelphia will see one of the few shows whose lineup can actually compete with Hip Hop Legends’. The show will take place at the Theatre of the Living Arts on South Street and it’s being held to honor the legendary Duck Down Records label’s 15th Aniversary. That aforementioned amazing lineup features Pharoahe Monch, Boot Camp Clik with Buckshot, Sean Price, Smif N Wessun, Skyzoo, and DJ Evil Dee. The whole thing jumps off at 9 pm and tickets are available here.
– Dennis Coffey was an integral part of Motown house band “The Funk Brothers”, the players behind dozens of hit singles in the sixties and seventies. He went on to record several highly regarded solo albums that housed oft-sampled tracks such as “Scorpio” and “Theme From Black Belt Jones.” Now Coffey is back in the studio recording an album slated to be released on Strut Records in 2011. As a preview for that album the guitarist has made this video for his great instrumental version of Cee-Lo’s current hit, “Fuck You”. The video was recorded in Detroit and features Mayor Hawthorne, drummer Melvin Davis, and several other Motor City characters.
