Rapper Rhymefest has decided that he will be running for political office in his hometown of Chicago.

The renowned freestyler, who won a Grammy Award for co-writing Kanye West’s “Jesus Walks,” revealed to SOHH.com that he would be making a formal announcement around October 15.

Rhymefest, born Che Smith, has yet to reveal what political office seat he is pursuing.

The announcement comes weeks after Wyclef Jean withdrew from the Presidential race in Haiti. (October 2)

UPDATE: It has now been confirmed by The Onion’s AV Club that Rhymefest is specifically running for 20th Ward Alderman. The formal candidacy announcement is expected to be made this Thursday at the Exclusively Yours Auto Spa in Washington Park. The following video was released hinting at the announcement:
