On August 11, 1973, Clive Campbell a/k/a DJ Kool Herc distributed the following flyer around his South Bronx community. The headlining deejay would be joined by Coco, Cindy C, Klark K and Timmy T in a seven-hour jam at 1520 Sedgwick Avenue, in the recreation room. The “back to school” jam would change history as we knew it.

The original flyer has been scanned and posted below:

With a contemporary clothing brand named after the intersection of Hip Hop’s genesis, artists such as Kool Herc and Grandmaster Caz are speaking about the culture they helped form, while clothes properly portray the history and formation of what’s lasted 37 years and beyond.
