This coming fall, legendary R&B singer Mary J. Blige will be heading back to school. At a recent concert in Central Park for ABC’s “Good Morning America,” Blige announced that she has officially earned her GED and will be attending Howard University. She has expressed he hopes earning a bachelor’s degree while attending Howard and will be joining the class of 2014. Watch the video below for her announcement during the performance.

In the days since the announcement, Blige has been engaged in a back-and-forth dispute with the prestigious University. On July 7, Howard released the following statement, re-published at Huffington Post: “We encourage Ms. Blige to continue her studies and welcome her consideration of Howard University in the future. We are happy to work with Ms. Blige on completing the formal process for admission.”
The Queen of R&B responded via Twitter that she has the acceptance letter, framed in her living-room.
