Somalian-Canadian artist K’Naan recently received a 2010 Teen Choice Award nomination for “Rap/Hip Hop Track” for his single “Wavin’ Flag.” The record is from his 2009 album Troubadour and reached the No. 1 position in over 17 countries. The song was also chosen as the official track of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

The Teen Choice Awards airs Monday, Aug. 9 at 8P.M. E.T.

In other news, Complex Magazine recently profiled Noah “40” Shebib, the producer/engineer of most of rapper Drake’s music. The music maker holds much in common with Drake, including his career as a child actor. “40 is everything to me,” said Drake. “Without 40, I don’t know what I would do.”

40 has starred in television shows like Goosebumps in the 90s, as well as the critically acclaimed film The Virgin Suicides.

In addition, Inner Loop Records and Natioal Producers League is holding the King of the Beltway 3, inviting Hip Hop producers to battle for a cash prize, a Native Instruments machine, and other gifts.

The event will be held on Jul. 24 in Vienna, Virginia’s Jammin Java. The 5-round tournament will be overseen by as-of-yet unidentified celebrity judges. Click here for more information.

Lastly, Xzibit is also giving aspiring producers and artists a chance to compete for a prize. He has teamed up with Indaba Music to present the “Hurt Locker” Remix Contest.

Those who remix his single “Hurt Locker” the best will receive several music products, a flight to Los Angeles, and tickets to attend DJ See’s live music show at the Roxy Theatre. The contest runs from Jun. 29 to Jul. 27. More information can be found here.
