After playing an integral role in urban comedy during the early 1990’s with Def Comedy Jam, Hip Hop impresario Russell Simmons has teamed up with Comedy Central to premiere his new comedy series Stand-Up at The El Rey.
Known best for his role as Leon Black on Curb Your Enthusiasm, JB Smoove will handle hosting duties for this new stand-up series that highlights comedians on the cusp of stardom. Each of the six episodes will also be available for download on iTunes, Zune and Amazon following its premiere.
Russell Simmons Presents Stand-Up at the El Rey will begin Sunday, July 11 at 11:00 p.m. with two back-to-back episodes featuring comedians Tony Roberts, JJ Williamson and Dante Nero, as well as host JB Smoove.

With features from underground Hip Hop heavyweights such as Sha Stimuli, Torae and Jakk Frost, Amor’s new album carries on the east coast tradition of boom bap production mixed with raw lyricism. Taking Nowhere, Somewhere is available now on Coalmine Records.
Finally, underground rapper Nico The Beast is offering two free songs from his recent release The Beast Within.
The two tracks, “You Mean Everything” and “Grown Man Music” were originally meant to be included but unfortunately were cut due to sampling clearance issues. To make up for it, Nico The Beast is giving the music away to his fans to show his appreciation. The Beast Within is available for purchase on iTunes, as well as his official website here.
