After producing De La Soul’s acclaimed trio of albums between 1989 and 1993 (3 Feet High & Rising, De La Soul Is Dead and Buhloon Mindstate), Long Island producer Prince Paul would go on to work with RZA and Da Gravediggaz. Just after that period, Paul, known originally for his role in 1980s Hip Hop band Stetsasonic, worked with local storied emcee Superstar.
The duo would record a 1995 album called Horror City. Despite Paul’s relationship with Tommy Boy Records and short-lived Doo Doo Man boutique imprint at Def Jam, he was unable to find a home for the work.
Today, Paul released Horror City to fans online for free. “I sat on this project for a while but it always had a dear place in my heart because I thought it was really good and the talent was there,” said the producer in a statement today. Some of the instrumentals created by the Handsome Boy Modeling School producer would later end up on his 1999 sophomore solo album, Prince Among Thieves.
