In a Rolling Stone story entitled “How Jay-Z Became King of America,” Jay-Z gives writer Mark Binelli an inside look at a typical day for the rapper/entrepreneur.

Jay-Z spoke with the writer about a variety of topics including his wife Beyonce Knowles, his former gig at Def Jam, his love for indie rockers, and even his one and only trip to therapy.

“I love the energy coming out indie rock right now,” Jay-Z explained to Rolling Stone. “It has this rebellion thing that hip-hop is missing now, the thing that made hip-hop hip-hop.”

In the interview, Jay-Z was unsurprisingly tight-lipped about his relationship with Beyonce but did share a short story about a disagreement the couple had over a Laurie Simmons art piece.

The rapper turned entrepreneur revealed that his job as president of Def Jam wasn’t the easiest. When asked what his most frustrating meetings were as Def Jam president, “all of them,” was his response.

The issue of Rolling Stone featuring Jay-Z on the cover also includes pieces on president Barack Obama, the BP oil spill, Jack Johnson, and more.
