Quite opposite to his rambunctious TV personality, Ludacris is calm and composed, chilling, sitting at the edge of the stage at Babalu in Midtown Manhattan. It’s Tuesday night, August 13th and Luda’s ATL crew, Disturbing The Peace is previewing tracks from their Def Jam South debut.

Everyone’s in attendance: Luda, aka Velvet Jones, Shawnna, aka Jenny Jones, DTP’s first lady, Infamous 2-0 aka Dealer, Lil Fate aka Baby Flex and Tity-Boi aka Mr. Ty. D.J. Jaycee aka Capt. Scissors is playing the tracks.

Luda’s doing two things: taking pictures/shaking hands and bopping his head to the hardcore, down South dynamite bumping out of the speakers. The laid-back atmosphere in Babalu feels less like the club it is most nights and more like an amphitheater.
