Dominated by veteran acts such as U2, AC/DC and Elton John, Cash Money/Young Money’s headliner Lil Wayne was the only Hip Hop act to grace Pollstar.com’s Highest Grossing Tours list for 2009.
Wayne, who was out on the road for almost nine months of last year, took the #26 spot, with amassed tickets sales of $42 million. According to Billboard.com, Weezy’s tour attracted over 800,000 fans at 78 various venues throughout North America and Canada.
Still, the highest grossing Hip Hop tour of 2009 wasn’t without its hiccups. A lawsuit was filed against the Grammy winner and his manager by promoter RMF Productions in February for $1.3 million after Wayne failed to honor a show in Rochester, New York.
In the R&B world ,it was Beyonce who appeared on the list in the #34 spot having secured $26.4 million in ticket sales for her world tour, which commenced in Spring of 2009. The tour to promote her album I Am….Sasha Fierce, saw the songstress perform in four continents. Beyonce will embark on her first tour to South America in early February.
