Alright, so by now everyone knows about this year’s infamous Hot 97 show where Nas pulled a no show, but many people are still in the dark about all the circumstances that caused Nas to flip the script and go to other New York stations to vent his frustration. Allegedly, during Nas’s performance he planned to do a “mock lynching” that would be wrapped around his beef with Jay-Z and Hot 97 officials refused to allow him to do that. Nas denies that he planned a “mock lynching” and told Wendy Williams of New York’s WBLS, “They don’t even know what I was about to do. I wasn’t even Jay I was after”. On June 27th’s afternoon drive Sunny and Angie Martinez responded to Nas’s verbal attacks at HOT 97. “Management told him not to do it. Nas then decided if he couldn’t do that during the show, he didn’t want to do any show.”, Martinez stated to the listeners. “We were not trying to protect a specific artist, this is not about politics, money, nothing. This was just a decision that was made. That’s the truth”.
Aah, but see the truth, that’s all that we really want, right? Was it really “dirty politics” as Nas said behind all of this or is Nas just tripping? According to statements made on AHH.com by Dame Dash, he may be the reason behind all of Nas’s anger unbeknownst to the hip-hop community. “Who do you think made the phone call? I just wanted to aggravate Nas”, Dash said. “I can’t rap, but I can get at him though”. Although Dash alleges to have made the phone call that stopped Nas from doing the “lynching” scene during his performance, he didn’t believe Nas would get this angry. Yo keep it locked right here on hiphopdx cause its going down!
