Nas was scheduled to headline Hot 97’s Summer Jam, but while the show took place a few days ago, Nas was on the radio instead. Nasir Jones was on Power 105 explaining why he wasn’t performing as scheduled, while he was at it he decided to get a few other things off this chest.
Essentially, the reason that Nas did not do the show after being begged to do so, was because Hot 97 would not allow him to perform the Jay-Z diss “Ether.” I’m sure you all remember Jay’s antics at last years show. Nas said that the wrong people are in charge when they won’t let him perform that song when people have done diss songs in the past.
Nas went on to say some interesting things about other artists and the state of hip hop, here is a sample of the what he said: “I turn on that station there and I hear rappers talking about their record sales, their rims on a truck, I mean, what does that have to do with our community?” Nas stated, “I don’t want to hear a radio disc jockey Angie Martinez making records that’s terrible. I want to hear true Hip-Hop music. Let’s get real and be creative. I bought these people’s albums and they ain’t talking about nothing. From Cam to everybody. I mean, I like Cam, he’s a good lyricist but the album is wack man. Ya’ll brothers need to start rapping about something that’s real. My man Nore, I love you Nore, but step your rap game up, man. Nelly, you trying to battle KRS-One? Yo, my next album that’s coming out is gonna school a lot of rappers on how to be a man. Because these brothers let Flex and them dictate what’s supposed to be hot.”
