Ice-T, Questlove & More Pay Tribute To Sinead O’Connor Who Has Died Aged 56

Ice-T, Questlove and many other musicians have paid tribute to Sinead O’Connor, the Irish singer known for her mega cover of Prince‘s “Nothing Compares 2 U,” who has passed away at the age of 56.

According to her family, O’Connor died on Wednesday (July 26) and an outpouring of support and condolences have since filled social media.

“Respect to Sinead….. She stood for something… Unlike most people…. Rest Easy,” Ice-T wrote on Twitter while quoting a tribute from KXNG Crooked.

Questlove called Sinead one of “the nicest people” he’s met while paying homage to the Grammy-winning singer on Instagram. “Heartbreaking man. One of the nicest humans. Damn man. This is devastating,” The Roots drummer said.

Bun B added in Quest’s comment section: “Warrior princess. RIP.”

Public Enemy‘s Chuck D also made sure to salute Sinead O’Connor following news of her passing. “Rest In Beats and PowEr Sinead O Connor who always Brought The Noise,” he penned.

O’Connor’s cause of death hasn’t yet been made public but she dealt with mental health struggles throughout her life as she was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder in 2003.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad,” O’Connor’s family shared in a statement to BBC News. “Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time.”

Sinead O’Connor is best known for her Billboard Hot 100 chart-topping single “Nothing Compares 2 U.” The track — which is written by Prince — reached No. 1 in 1990.

She also made a special crossover when teaming up with MC Lyte for the “I Want Your Hands On Me” remix in 1988.

O’Connor’s outspoken persona and candor were adored along with her recognizable buzzed haircut. She condemned the catholic church and memorably ripped up a photo of the pope during a 1992 Saturday Night Live performance.

The Dublin native will be missed by her millions of fans across the globe. HipHopDX extends its condolences to her friends and family.

      1. He just recognizes real. That’s all. U mad he ain’t posted about your dusty a$$? Well quit complaining and make something of yourself. And maybe he’ll post about u loser

    1. She sadly was wrestling with the death of her son who was only 17. It’s tough. Respect to Michael for posting her with her hijab, you’re a real one for that.

    2. Look closely. This is one of Sinead O’Connor’s first U.S. televised performances. She shaved the Public Enemy logo into her head because the Grammy’s were not going to broadcast the Rap awards and had not invited Rap artists to perform, even though it was the first year they were giving out awards to Rap artists. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWY14l_HjDA

    3. Questlove is literally and figuratively the biggest Queen. Nothing compares to him. Big pun 100% intended.
