Ice Spice seemingly came out of nowhere with her smash single “Munch” in 2022, but she’s actually been training for this moment in the spotlight her entire life.

The Bronx rapper graced the cover of Paper Magazine on Wednesday (April 12), and opened up about her family life a bit during the interview. Though she wants to keep the lives of her relatives private, Ice did reveal that her father was an underground rapper who has been teaching her the ropes since she was young.

“He definitely inspired me to want to record,” she said. “I remember being in the studio with him. I was a toddler, probably. And I remember little flashes. Of course, not every detail, but small things like that being shown to you at such a young age make an impression on you.”

She continued: “Subconsciously, I ended up becoming an artist because I saw my father be one first. He’s a music lover himself. He’s a true Hip Hop head, beyond me, honestly. He knows everything. He’s always educating me on Hip Hop and shit like that.”

The Paper cover is one of many accolades Ice Spice has received as of late. Earlier this month, the “Boy’s A Liar” rapper landed her first modeling gig, being tapped by Marc Jacobs for the celebrated fashion brand’s new ‘Heaven’ campaign.

The shoot went down in Los Angeles last month with photographer Harley Weir. The collection heavily reflects the early 2000s style that is currently back in trend, with Ice Spice even toting a remake of Paris Hilton’s cufflinks bag that became her staple in the early aughts.

The Heaven collection includes cheerleader-inspired mini dresses, pink netted cover-ups, star-printed tees and tank tops, a full range of accessories and more. Lil Uzi Vert was also tapped for the campaign, as well as actor Liv Tyler, the aforementioned Paris Hilton and more.

The first drop is out now, with another drop scheduled in May.
