Ice Cube Teams With Disney For Musical Adaptation Of “Oliver Twist”

Ice Cube is no stranger to the big screen. The former-N.W.A rapper has nailed roles in major movies such as Friday, Boyz N The Hood and Three Kings, and now he’s saying “Please sir, I want some more.”

Cube has landed the role of Fagin in Disney’s musical adaptation of Charles Dickens’ beloved novel Oliver Twist, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Fagin is the old man who leads a bunch of cockney pickpockets around London and takes Oliver under his wing.

Fagin’s most famous song in the musical is “You’ve Got To Pick A Pocket Or Two,” check it out below and see if you can imagine an Ice Cube version.

Ice Cube has gone down the family route before, most notably starring in the Are We There Yet franchise, but it’ll be a whole other experience watching Cube try his hand at playing an old Dickensian man.

Cube is not only starring in this latest version of Oliver Twist, which has been adapted for the big screen at least twice, but he is also slated to write the screenplay alongside The Firm CEO Jeff Kwatinetz.

Ice Cube will also reprise his role as producer, just as he was for many of his movies, including 2015’s Straight Outta Compton. So it’s safe to say that Cube has let go of the grievances he expressed on Public Enemy’s “Burn Hollywood Burn.”

Thomas Kail, most famous for his work on Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Broadway musicals Hamilton and In The Heights, is slated to direct the project. Kail is clearly making more forays into the world of TV and cinema, as evidenced by his executive producer role on upcoming FOX TV series “93 ‘Til Infinity” alongside rapper Common.

    1. Cube’s last dope album was Raw Footage. Anything after that was trash. WESTCOAST beats soundin like trap-infused pieces of unoriginal shit. Get back to your roots, Cube.

      1. Agreed Raw Footage was good, then he started dropping trash. Raw Footage was a classic to me personally. I thought Cube was about to get back to that Raw music. Then he went right back to that hollywood bs. I alwas enjoyed his music even thought he wasn’t really about what he said he was.

    2. Cube always been one of the biggest hypocrites in hip hop. Dissed Hollywood, but now he’s Mr Hollywood himself. At least he doesn’t beat up women doe.

      1. What’s wrong with beating up women? Have you seen some of the black women on World Star? They’re just as manly or manlier than a lot of scrawny black dudes you blow.

    3. Cube is and has always been a opportunist, he is good at manipulating situations. I’ve told people that Cube has tricked people into believing Jerry Heller is a snake, everybody has really bought into the things Cube says about Jerry, but nothing Jerry has said about Cube or about what went on.

      1. I can tell you work full-time in the Wal-Mart warehouse, because guys who are broke get mad when other men are successful. Cube’s son’s allowance when he was ten is probably more than you make on yearly lol. Broke nigga.

    4. Cultural appropriation! Cultural Appropriation! Oh Disney, what are you trippin’ on? The majority of Americans do not want to see movies like this (take for example Disney’s own giant 2016 bomb “Queen of Katwe) and reboots of beloved movies with “updated and modern” casts such as another giant bomb named “Annie” a little while ago. Disney, I know you’re trying your best to keep all people happy but at what cost? These movies bombed for a reason just as this update of “Oliver Twist” will.
