Hitmaka revealed that lying sometimes works, as he shared how a fib on The Breakfast Club led to a $500K-a-year position at a major label.

The Chicago-born producer — who previously went by Yung Berg — spoke with Akademiks on Saturday (June 15) and shared a story about scamming his way into serious money.

He talked about the rise of his career, explaining: “My mentor is Ryan Press, who’s the head of Warner Chappell. I literally went on The Breakfast Club and lied. They let me do an interview at The Breakfast Club after I had these placements.

“I went in the interview and went, ‘Yo, I swear these labels tryna hire me as an A&R, too. Not only am I making these records, they wanna hire me in these offices as an A&R.

Charlamagne was like, ‘Oh, for real?,’ kinda threw a little sauce on it. The next day, my man Ryan hit me and was like, ‘Yo, you was serious about that?’ I’m like, ‘Yeah.’ He like, ‘Yo, when you get back to L.A. I wanna take you to meet Craig and Julie. Y’all should do a meeting.”

He concluded: “I just told them the real shit. I’m on ground, I’m actually making these records, what better situation to have the guy that — I’m the next lineage. You guys believed in Irv Gotti, you believed in all these different people that had their subsidiaries that were producers and executives at the same time.

“That’s the space I need to be in … From there I became the vice president of A&R from Atlantic Records … I think I was getting paid about half a million dollars a year.”

Hitmaka has become a massive voice in Hip Hop despite an alleged sabotage attempt by an embattled rap mogul.

Back in February, the producer accused Diddy of trying to sabotage his career and poach talent from him, and described the Bad Boy boss as “diabolical.”

Speaking on The Joe Budden Podcast, the producer detailed his experiences with Puff over the years and suggested the embattled record executive has a vendetta against him.

Hitmaka began by saying Diddy asked him to work on his star-studded R&B project The Love Album: Off the Grid, but things quickly soured when the Harlem-bred mogul took issue with the beats he submitted.

“Puff hit me, he like, ‘Yo, I’m doing an R&B album, I need you, you the guy. It’s gonna be London on Da Track, you and me and I think we should do everything together. Send me some joints,’” he recalled.

“I send him a 10 clip, crazy shit. He hit me back like, ‘I want that [Yung] Berg shit, stop trying to be me. It sound like you trying to do what I do, n-gga. Send me some different shit.’”

He continued: “So I didn’t send him nothing. I was like, ‘Fuck it.’ Next thing I know, the n-gga deciphered my records and reached out to everybody I collaborated with and dissected me from the situation.

“So he called Cardiak to his house like, ‘You need to be one of The Hitmen.’ Next thing, Eric Bellinger is in the Bahamas with muthafuckin’ Puff and they’re singing songs together.”
