Hit-Boy Explains Kanye West & Jay-Z’s Secrecy Surrounding Projects

Kanye West and Jay-Z have a tendency to keep mum about their upcoming projects – a trait that extends to those that work with them. During an interview with Shade 45’s Sway in the Morning, producer Hit-Boy confirmed that he has a few records on G.O.O.D. Music’s upcoming compilation Cruel Summer (September 18th) but wouldn’t elaborate on who is featured on the record.

“I did a couple of joints on there. I feel the same way I felt when I knew I had some shit coming out on Watch the Throne, is the way I feel about Cruel Summer. It’s going to change my life again,” he said, giving pause when pressed for features. “It’s a few.”

Hit-Boy said that Jay and ‘Ye make it known that you aren’t supposed to talk about projects that are in motion, stating that they don’t give a speech demanding secrecy but are forthright about protecting their music. “It’s kind of like after a while, you get known [that] it’s secrecy,” he continued. “It’s not a real speech but niggas let you know, don’t say shit.”

Watch the full interview below, where he also speaks on having ‘Ye as his mentor, being from the Inland Empire and more.

    1. thats why they move big units to many artsit are in your face all day with freestyles features and mixtapes and wonder why they flop you nas would have sold more if he wasnt runninground with the disney rappers for the last few months

    2. “I feel the same way I felt when I knew I had some shit coming out on Watch the Throne, is the way I feel about Cruel Summer”

      Oh great another let down.

      1. ae your ears retarded?? or is it just you?? watch the throne had amazing production, amazing beats (minus two or three), and amazing lyrics (minus a song or two)… they hit about 90% with that album which is an A- in my book… sitting back, rolling up two fat marley joing, and throwing on the headphones while listening to watch the throne was one of the best first time album experiences i can remember… sonically that album just blew me away…. can i get some other peoples thoughts???

      2. i’d say watch the throne was more closer to a “let down” than a “A-” when you compare them joints to other songs ye & jay did together then it was a certain let down… and their flows throughout were wack especially jay’s

      3. and also you can’t really imply somebody’s ears are “retarded” if the critical reviews back it up averaging like a 3.5/5

      4. I thought 1/2 of WTT was dope and the other 1/2 was trash…and Jay was mostly trash…but that’s a good album these days

      5. no way in hell was WTT a classic or even close to a classic.Like 1 of the anon stated, 3.5/5 was the average rating & thats a pretty good rating for that album. Production wise, it was very good but lyrically it lacked alot. Most songs were very braggadocious & dat shit gets old after a couple songs…Murder to Excellence really saved that album to me

      6. One mans classic is another mans average. We all hear things differently. Because Dx or some hip-hop magazine say 3.5 doesn’t mean someone else won’t think 5.

      7. I’ve given up on trying to reason with people about WTT lol. Most don’t get it and probably never will. Preconceived notions and a lack of “Musical tastes” will cloud anyone’s judgment. The album isn’t a classic, but it’s FAR from a let down. I don’t know what the average “review” was for the album. Mostly because I don’t allow other peoples view of something to shape my own. I also never make the mistake of comparing something “now” to something of the “past”…. lol

      1. Oh… Jay & Ye fans/dickriders can’t take criticism I said it was a “let down” saying it doesn’t live up to the likes of Reasonable Doubt, The Blueprint, The Black Album, The College Dropout, Late Registration or My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy etc. doesn’t even live up to the likes of In My Lifetime, Vol. 1, American Gangster or Graduation.

And no I don’t like Tha Carter IV and I hate DJ Khaled.

      2. @thetruth I agree 100%. @anonymous – if you think listening to the Carter 4 and WTT shows musical variety, then you have much research to do. Listening to only top40 shows you are a sheep who listens to what he is told to listen to. Musical variety would involve diff genres, underground labels and a million other things. Step yo game up!

    3. WTT is a classic album and it last. It has depth and good beats. The whole album is about self empowerment and escaping the box people want to place you in. Physically and mentally. That’s all it is. It’s just told from Hov’s and Ye’s perspective.

      1. Yeah… Why don’t you get a grip and understand it’s all just peoples opinions.

So in YOUR opinion it’s a classic but in others it ain’t, I understand what it’s about but I just don’t enjoy listening to the album… Personally.

      2. last time i listened to wtt its was all just cocky rap look at what i have cause im jayz type of rap no emotion no nothing and ye just sounded angry as if he was making a diss track on every song with him dissin money
