Hip Hop Album Sales: Week Ending 6/29/08

    There was not much movement at the top of the charts this week. Lil Wayne [click to read] continued to hold the #2 spot, selling six-figures of units. The shocker to some is Three 6 Mafia‘s [click to read] return to album making. Last 2 Walk [click to read] cracked the top five, as one of Columbia‘s first rap releases since Rick Rubin‘s takeover at the historic imprint. Usher and Rihanna held positioning, dropping rank a few units. Rihanna continues to sell strongly in digital singles, with the repackaging of her year-old album.

After the success of “Flashing Lights,” Michigan’s Dwele made a respectable first showing with his independent Sketches of a Man. Bun B [click to read] and Rick Ross continue to show that strong album-making equates to consistent sales. Meanwhile, Immortal Technique cracked the Top 100 with his critically-championed The 3rd World [click to read], assisted by DJ Green Lantern.
