Hip Hop Album Sales: Week Ending 12/24/2006

This week on the charts Nas made his way to
the top and bettered the numbers set by Young Jeezy by just a
few thousand, selling 354K for the number one spot.  Jeezy called
out Nas last week on Monie Love’s
show, “I’ll tell you what, we’ll look at them first week numbers
    and we’ll talk about it”.
    Regardless, Def Jam
is looking good in the fourth quarter with Jeezy and Nas
winning weeks back to back, Jay-Z still in the top 40. but DJ
    Clue’s
latest release, The Professional Part 3 only sold 53K
for a place in the top 100 at number 73.  After six weeks on the charts, Akon
stands strong top round out the top 10.  Bow Wow all
grown up sells 260K of Price of Fame  to wind up in the
number 6 spot, while his ex-girl, Ciara, keeps the number 11
spot she held last week with her latest, The Evolution.

Debuting this week alongside Bow Wow and Nas,
DJ Clue only did a little better than ex LOX
member, Styles P, although the album was pushed back for the
better part of this year, Time is Money, is finally out but only sold
a paltry 45,000+ copies.  Trick Daddy is Back By Thug
    Demand
at number 48, selling 86K of his seventh studio album to date,
mostly off the success of his single, Bet That featuring Chamillionaire and
the remix featuring Ja Rule of all people. Jeezy
managed to stay in the top 20 with the 18th spot, but his sales fell alongside Fantasia,
    Tyrese
and Ghostface.  In their second weeks,
they all took a step back as Fantasia slipped from 19th to
63rd, Black Ty from 23rd to 71st and Ghostface
from 71st to 166th with only another 19K selling this week.

After four weeks on the charts it seems that those boys from
Virginia, Malice and Pusha T will fall out of
the top 200 after only selling 132K to date and being in the 199th spot this
week.  The album, hailed by many to be the best of 2006, has not sold well
so far.  Eminem found a way to stay in the top 25 and Snoop
remains in the top 40 at number 38.

Next week we’ll see Mos Def enter the
charts, maybe and for the ladies, Omarion
    will release 21.
