Hip Hop Album Sales: Week Ending 10/22/2006

This week on the Hip Hop charts finds Diddy on top. It seems like more people wanted to “Press Play” on Diddy’s new album
than any other release this week. Press Play opened at #1 with just over 170k
sold this week. Diddy fended off a strong second week from rock group
Evanescence (112k sold) and a solid debut on the charts from pop princess JoJo (108k). Justin
    Timberlake
still is going strong with “My Love” making noise on the singles
charts. Futuresex/Love Sounds held steady at #4 with just under another 100k
    sold (1,368,048 sold overall).

Elsewhere, LudacrisRelease Therapy cracked Gold status
with 55k sold (#12) and puts him at 550k sold overall. Lloyd BanksRotten
    Apple
saw a significant drop off with only 49k sold this week and dropped him
out of the top 10 after debuting at #3 last week (#15). Beyonce’s B’Day is
inching closer to Platinum status with another 36k sold and 996k sold overall.
Expect her to hit Platinum next week.

Rumors of Jermaine Dupri leaving because of Janet Jackson’s
less than expected sales may be true as Janet’s 20 Y.O. still has yet to meet
Gold status. The album only pushed 26k this week and sits at 443,076 units sold
    to date (#28 this week)’

Hi Tek’s Hi Teknology V2 opened up quite strong with very
little promotion. The CD was #38 and sold 21k+ units. Xzibit’s release couldn’t
quite come “full circle.” The new X to the Z album dropped in at a very low 16k
units sold which puts him at #50 to debut on the charts.

Next week we’ll see how well Jibbs debut fares against the
Grammy award winning sophomore album from John Legend.
