Hip Hop Album Sales: Drake, Future & Mac Miller

Drake and Future topped the Billboard Top 200 Chart this week, as expected, although their joint project sold less than the anticipated 500,000 units. Mac Miller and Andy Mineo also debut in the Top 10. The Weeknd fell from the top spot and Beauty Behind the Madness now sits at #3. Jay Rock saw a 69 percent decrease in sales and holds the #94 slot with 90059.

    Drake and Future Take Crown

Drake and Future’s surprise release, What a Time to be Alive, saw 375,458 total units of sales its opening week. It was released on a Sunday, which gave it two fewer days to sell because most albums drop on Fridays. The album saw nearly 37 million streams and was only available on Apple Music. Both Drake and Future had solo projects top the chart this year, with If Youre Reading This Its Too Late and Dirty Sprite 2, respectively. Those albums remain in this week’s top 20.

    Mac Miller Charts Again

Mac Miller’s Go:od AM, debuts at the #4 spot on the chart. The project saw 86,914 total sales units. His last album, 2013’s Watching Movies With the Sound Off, debuted at the #3 spot, following Kanye West’s Yeezus and J. Cole’s Born Sinner.

Andy Mineo Lands In Top 10

Andy Mineo’s sophomore LP, Uncomfortable, debuts at the #10 spot with 35,329 total units of sales activity. The Reach Records release topped the independent chart. The project includes the singles “Uncomfortable” and “Hear My Heart” and is executively produced by !llmind.

      1. Meek Mill’s album still top #4 in rap album sales this year. If that’s what you call “Bombing” then that explains why you fuck wit fake ass naggers who don’t write they own raps.

    1. Jcole winning to still on the billboard charts putting up numbers almost 10 months after forest hills drive was released and its the first album to go platinum in 25 years without a featured artist drake gotta do that first before he can be considered the one true god of rap lol its the truth deal with it

    2. WATTBA is the 2nd best album of the year, right after IYRTITL. Drizzaveli Da 6 God continues to show his ass to other rappers as he keeps getting #1 albums, achieving huge sales and cranking out hits after hits. This nigga is unstoppable. Truly a legend in the game. #DrakeIsLoveDrakeIsLife

      1. WATTBA is actually a new high for drake. Drake gets better each time and he started off in classic territory to begin with.

      2. How did To Pimp A Butterfly flopped when it went to number one, sold more than gold, and is the highest-rated hip-hop album released with a 96 on Metacritic?

      1. What a weird world it is when Mac Miller of all people is considered real hip hop, considering his early work and even the new album has a decent amount of influence from the BSman Drake himself (and I say that as a fan of Mac Miller and not necessarily a fan of Drake).

      2. If y’all consider DRAKE real hip hop, your opinion is worthless. Mac Miller is self-made, Drake sold-out and made that wack ass Rap/Pop shit just to sell records. To say Drake influenced Mac Miller is like to say Bobby Brown didn’t smoke crack.

      3. For real though it’s a shame Vince Staples/Migos/Jay Rock didn’t sell more than 20k when fake ass rappers who don’t even write they own raps out here going platinum. Something’s fucked up wit this world.

    3. MAAAAAADDD DOPE SON MAD SKILLZ KEHDDDDDD. WORD TO DA GOAT MAC MILLER MAD ILL MAADDD DOPE SHUN HE THE ILLEST PUERTO RICAN RAPPER SINCE JOEY CRACK THUN

    4. That Drake and Future album is seriously incredible. Change Locations and Diamonds Dancing have a futuristic Hendrix/Marvin Gaye type vibe going on. So chill. Nice that they pay homage to other Black music legends.

      1. Please tell me you’re joking because that shitty album or any of the shitty songs on it are nothing like Hendrix or Marvin Gaye. They didn’t pay tribute to any legends, it’s more of the same boring Autotuned shit.

      2. For real though who the fuck you think you is comparing that garbage to JIMI FUCKING HENDRIX!?! are you kidding? Drake & Future barely live up to Will Smith. Let alone some of the most influential musicians in history like Gaye/Hendrix
