Hieroglyphics “The Kitchen” Tracklist, Cover Art & Album Stream

Oakland underground super group Hieroglyphics will release its third album, The Kitchen, July 16. Sacramento-based DJ and beat-chopping crew The Sleeprockers contributed to Hiero’s third studio album, a project they “mixed and cooked.”

The Kitchen single “Gun Fever” discusses the group’s perspective on gun control, a topic that’s getting a lot of national attention thanks to the high profile shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, among others. “We are not promoting guns or violence,” Hieroglyphics member Tajai said on the group’s website, “but simply expressing our thoughts on the issue and encouraging further dialogue.”

Hieroglyphics consists of Souls of Mischief (Opio, Phesto, A-Plus, Tajai), Del The Funky Homosapien, Pep Love, Casual, Domino and DJ Toure. The members of Hiero have been involved in a number of projects and have collaborated with Jurassic 5, George Clinton, Dilated Peoples, Q-Tip, Xzibit and Gorillaz, among others.

The Kitchen is the follow-up to 2003’s Full Circle. The crew released 3rd Eye Vision in 1998 and also has various compilations and EPs under its belt.

    1. 3rd Eye Vision maybe the most slept on HIPHOP CLASSIC ever!

      Hiero!

Though the beat was ill as hell. i didnt love gun fever, just not the lane i like to see em in. (i know its not a gun promoting song, and quite the rather)

      1. Those Hiero albums are great (oakland blackouts!!), but they are a result of a collective of talented individuals + a group (souls) coming together. It’s not a group that splits apart and does solos. For the classics get the early ones with a lot of Domino production like Del – No Need For Alarm, Casual – Fear Itself, Souls’ 93 till Infinity. Very 90s but also timeless.

      1. My thoughts exactly! Also, Del’s production (and vocal style) is erm, interesting nowadays. Just stick No Need for Alarm on for the 3000th time.

      2. Del’s flow is on point. Just his subject matter can be a bit ehhh.

Waiting on that new Deltron album though.

    2. Dope!!!! Pep Love back at it!!!.Big up Hyroglifics!!!!
Bet the album be banging cant w8 for it!!!…peace God!!!

    4. My favorite Hiero related albums in order-
Extra Prolific- Like It Should Be
Del- I Wish My Brother George Was Here
Souls Of Mischief- 93 Til Infinity
      Del- No Need for Alaem
      Casual- Feqr Itself

      I miss Extra Prolific

      1. “93 Til Infinity” is one of my favorite hip-hop albums of all time. The last track was my personal favorite off that album, too.

    5. Glad to see a lot of Opio production on there, hoping Dels contributions are more Land of Funk than Both Sides of the Blah

    6. ONE LOVE>>>>>>>>> HIERO!!!

No reason to worry about Domino, crew stay solid!!

These guys are INCREDIBLE!!!!!! AMAZING DUDES!! Much love!!

    7. HAHHA TRUE HIP HOP.. GOOD OL DAYS.. 93 TIL INFINITY. MY HIGH SCHOOL DAYS.. HEIRO VS HOBOJUNCTION.. WHO KNOW BOUT THAT THERE! OLD YES BUT I WOULD RATHER BE A OLD HIP HOP HEAD
