Gunna’s Team Gives Out $100K In Gift Cards After Christmas Giveaway Cancelation

Gunna and his team have given out over $1,000 in gift cards to families in need after the YSL rapper was forced to cancel his annual Christmas Giveaway.

The abrupt cancelation was announced by Walmart due to security concerns. The 5th annual Gunna’s Great Giveaway was set to go down last Sunday (December 18), and 1,000 families had already signed up for assistance from Gunna in partnership with Goodr.

“Goodr was saddened to learn of Walmart’s decision to cancel the 5th Annual Gunna’s Great Giveaway event today,” Goodr’s CEO Jasmine Crowe wrote in a statement to HipHopDX at the time. “Gunna and the entire Goodr team were looking forward to brightening the holidays of the 1,000 families that registered. We are aware of how much the promised gifts meant to those families and we are collectively working to find an alternate solution.”

This week Gunna took a few extra steps to make sure his families were taken care of and dispersed the aforementioned gift cards to each of the families who had signed up.

“… I wanted to inform you that we contacted all 1,000 families this week. Working with the City Of South Fulton, every family received their gift cards and gifts today,” wrote Jasmine Crowe, Goodr’s founder and CEO, in a separate statement on her Instagram Story. “It’s important to note this event is in its 5th year. Since 2018, we have worked with Gunna to host his $100K Christmas Giveaway — this was not a first-time event.”

She continued: “It was essential to Gunna, his Great Giveaway Family Foundation, and Goodr to make sure that families received the assistance promised to them no matter what.”

The giveaway came days after Gunna (real name Sergio Kitchens) was released from prison after he pleaded guilty to a racketeering conspiracy charge at a virtual hearing on December 14. He was sentenced to five years with one year served in prison where he’s been since he was detained in May as part of the sweeping YSL indictment against Young Thug and his label.

The four-year sentence left will be “suspended” and Gunna will now be allowed to serve the remainder of his time in the form of 500 hours of community service.

Gunna made it clear immediately upon his freedom that he would not be cooperating with the authorities.

“While I have agreed to always be truthful, I want to make it perfectly clear that I have NOT made any statements, have NOT been interviewed, have NOT cooperated, have NOT agreed to testify or be a witness for or against any party in the case and have absolutely NO intention of being involved in the trial process in any way,” Gunna told WSB-TV in a statement.

While Gunna is now a free man, the same can’t be said for Young Thug, who remains behind bars in a Cobb County jail with his trial set to start in January.

Young Thug was arrested with Gunna and 26 others on racketeering charges related to Young Slime Life back in 2021, which prosecutors allege is a criminal street gang that claims affiliation with the Bloods.
