After Method Man, seemingly unbeknown to the entirety of the situation, made some noise regarding the 88-year commercial release clause of Wu-Tang Clan’s The Wu – Once Upon A Time In Shaolin early last month, Ghostface Killah recently spoke with CBC Music to offer his take on the whole proposition.
“I mean, it could be good and it could be bad,” Ghost says. “My first thing was like, ‘No, give it to the people. What are you going to hold it for?’ Then I look at it, like 88 years, most of us is going to be gone by that time, but you know, I don’t know how the state will be in music at that time, but if it is going all right, maybe people, it might give Wu-Tang [Clan] another burst in 80 years.”
Continuing, Ghost says he’s “stuck in the middle” regarding the 88-year release clause idea.
“I guess we’ll be here forever. Wu-Tang really will be forever if it’s like that. I couldn’t understand it at first, neither, and sometimes I still don’t understand, and sometimes I do. I’m stuck in the middle.”
Later in the conversation, Ghostface Killah spoke on the sound of the album, before noting that everything he’s rhymed over so far, he’s “murdered.”
“I’ve only really heard the parts that I’m on,” he says. “Musically, it was all right. It’s like this, what I heard, I’m not saying it’s like the first Wu-Tang album, but as far as the beats that were circulating around at that time, it’s like that. The ones I rhymed on. And it was decent. It was real nice. I murdered everything I was on, you know what I mean?”

Way to market the album Ghost. On the low Rza must be fuming that the rest of the clan aint riding his nuts on this one. Just give it to the fans already whoever buys it.
another thirsty non music buying scrub wants more music. just got a wu album, a ghost album, a gza single & album coming, a rae single & album coming, another ghost album on deck, and you STILL whining about ONE project. bunch of selfish asses, smdh! keep that 88 year hold on & if u ain’t got enuff music to listen to then f you, straight up.
And once again, another self loathing internet ingrate who probably can’t tell the difference between his ass and a hole in the ground decides to show and prove his/her own single minded stupidity. If that last Wu album is how you want to hear them in your lifetime then f you straight up and down
and once again…
it’s a stupid idea. point blank.. 88 years? word, who knows if there will be music in 88 years. It was a dumb idea from the jump and it’s still a dumb idea. Hope they got paid nice for their contribution to a stupid idea.
The only way there will not be music in 88 years is if the world ceases to exist.
Fuck it imma be the rock on the road and say you know what? I like this 88 year thing. It shows the hypocracy of music consumers to the fullest. If they cant get the album in their hands or have access to it, everybody loses their minds! “On and on to the break of dawn, but you don’t know what you got till its gone…” you know that tune?
ps. last wu album was poo though, i agree. This one is supposed to be fire.
I have yet to see an interview with any member saying musically its a great album they either say it was good, the beats were so/so or it wasn’t hype enough, how can you time-capsule an album that that artist performing on it consider so-so,—
Actually, most of them have said the album is crazy, including Adrian Young. Some people have said it’s their best one since Wu-tang Forever. Even Rolling Stone said it. Somebody hack this shit already.
These niggas haven’t even heard the album and aren’t interested in hearing it, but they expect the next nigga to pay a mil for ir. lol. I love this story, I hope it keeps going. None of them really know what the fuck is going on, you can tell. They’re all like “What’s even on that fuckin’ album?…” It’s all throw away cutting room floor shit that got scrapped from other projects. It’s not like they were sequestered in a secret Wu dungeon recording that shit.
aRIDIAN Young, clivarings – 4th disciple – that album was the one they needed to drop…
