Funk Flex is not a fan of rising rapper Tommy Richman, and has made his feelings known loud and clear.
During a brief yet fiery rant during a recent broadcast on Hot 97, the veteran DJ trashed the DMV native and his viral hit “Million Dollar Baby.”

“Remember, if you’re someone that likes this song, you are a clown,” he said while cueing up the track. “I don’t know what the rest of his songs sound like. I don’t even know who Tommy Richman is. It sounds like a shoe store. Now we’re gonna document this hot garbage. We’re gonna play it, though. I know you wanna hear it. I wonder if this is big at clubs.”
Funk then played the beginning of the song, adding: “See, this part is deceiving, like it might be a good song. Watch the terrible part as it comes in. You hear the tin can drums?”

Despite Flex’s harsh criticism, “Million Dollar Baby” has been arguably the biggest breakout rap song of 2024.
It debuting at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 last month after racking up 38 million official U.S. streams, 302,000 in early radio airplay audience and 4,000 downloads in its first week, according to Luminate.

He became just the sixth act in history to debut at No. 2 on the chart with their first entry, joining the likes of Lauryn Hill, Baauer and Zayn Malik.
While his rapid rise has been marred by industry plant accusations, Richman has been releasing music for almost a decade and dropped his debut album Alligator in 2022.
Things for the 24-year-old began to take off last year when he became the first artist signed to Brent Faiyaz‘s ISO Supremacy imprint in partnership PULSE Records and appeared on the singer’s Larger than Life project.
Tommy Richman’s ascent isn’t the only Gen Z Hip Hop story that Funk Flex has offered his take on in recent months.
Back in February, he suggested that Latto‘s track “Sunday Service” may not get play on his radio show because he’s a fan of Ice Spice.
The legendary DJ took to Instagram to share a text conversation he’d had with Kevin Valentini (known as Inca) who is one of Latto’s label reps at RCA Records. Valentini revealed that “Sunday Service” would be dropping this weekend, and seemed to ask for Flex’s support.

“I don’t know if I can play that, my brother! I’m from the Bronx!” he replied.
