Freeway Credits His Faith For Helping Him After Losing Both Of His Children

Freeway has opened up about the death of his two children, crediting his faith for giving him strength after suffering such an enormous loss.

During an appearance on Math Hoffa’s My Expert Opinion podcast, the Philadelphia rapper talked about how his Islamic faith has helped him following the passing of his son and daughter, which occurred just a year apart from each other.

“Just my faith in Islam and knowing that God is not gonna put nothing on me that I can’t handle,” he said. “Our prophet, peace be upon him, prophet Muhammad, he lost six of his children, and we look at him like he’s the best of mankind, and he dealt with it gracefully.

“So when I have my moments and I’m down in the dumps, I just think about him and the promise that God made to us that he not gonna put nothing on us that we can’t handle.”

Freeway spoke more about the close proximity of his son and daughter’s deaths, while also detailing his daughter’s battle with cancer.

“It was rough,” he said. “I buried my son in 2021. My daughter was diagnosed with cancer in September of 2021. My son died the end of October. Then we rumbling. Me and my daughter, we rumbling.

“She got this cancer called sarcoma which put tumors all over her body. But we still hopeful, we praying, we rumbling, we going back and forth. She had a couple operations. She couldn’t walk, she started walking again. You know, we hopeful. Then things took a turn for the worst.

“2022, around the same time, towards the end of October, my daughter passed away. And just dealing with that, if it wasn’t for God, bro, I don’t know what I would be doing or where I would be right now.”

Freeway then explained his decision to speak openly about the tragedies and described the difficulty of comforting his daughter in her final moments.

“I’m open about it because it’s a part of life, bro,” he said. “Everybody seen me go through it. And the thing with my daughter with the cancer, she had me in her phone as ‘my best friend’ — that’s our relationship.

“And just having to be there for her at those moments, it came to a moment where I knew it was nothing else that we could do. I just had to leave it up to God.

“Then I had to tell her, ‘Baby, you’re a good person. God loves you. You’re gonna go to heaven.’ Being by my daughter’s bedside at that moment was one of the hardest things I’ve had to do in my life.”
