Several members of the Hip Hop community took to social media on early Tuesday morning (March 13) to mourn the death of Hip Hop vet Craig Mack. He was 47.
DJ Scratch of EPMD fame posted a photo of Mack with the caption, “I just got a disturbing phone call. I cannot believe this dude is gone. He just reached out a couple of weeks ago for me to speak on his documentary about his life. Because Craig was my rodie on tour. He would set up & break down my turntables every night on tour. Rest In Peace Lil Bro.”
Funkmaster Flex also posted a tribute of his own to Instagram. The caption read, “Rest in Peace! Good brother … #CraigMack …Alvin Toney love my brother.”
Mack, who rose to notoriety with 1994’s “Flava In Ya Ear,” was signed to Diddy’s Bad Boy Entertainment throughout the ’90s. The track’s remix is considered one of the greatest rap posse cuts of all time.
“Flava In Ya Year” is also certified platinum by the RIAA and peaked at #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 the year it was released.
Despite Diddy asking him to join the Bad Boy Reunion Tour in 2016, Mack opted not to do the shows. However, he did return in May 2016 with a religious rap song he performed at The Overcomer Ministry in South Carolina.
Tributes have already started pouring in on social media. From Whodini’s Jalil Hutchins and Juicy J to Biz Markie and R.A. The Rugged Man, news of Mack’s death is currently rippling throughout the Hip Hop community.
This is a developing story. HipHopDX will post an update after more details become available.
In the meantime, check out some of the tributes below[apple_news_ad type=”any”].
Word up don’t rap no crap you bore me
Wanna grab my dick, too lazy, hold it for me
Am I the only one who thinks that the original is better than the remix? RIP Craig Mack.
No man, you’re 100% right. The original is better than the remix
No doubt, I’ve never cared about the LL and Rampage verses. I do love however the Get Down Remix with Q-Tip though.
Remember when I heard flava in ya ear for the first time. Put it on repeat for two weeks straight. Never got boring. RIP MC EZ aka Craig Mack
Rest in peace Craig mack. We ‘ll miss you
I hope his kids still be getting paid…for real
Most artists that are hot today won’t have nothing that’ll resonate 20+ years from now. No matter what you say about Mack, he caught one. It’s synonymous with 90s hiphop, a bonafide classic for real. RIP brother…
How? He could not have been very old. Assuming he was in his early 20s in ’94 when the song came out, he would be late 40s now at the latest. Way too young.
RIP Craig Mack gone but never forgotten
Diddy is a curse
R.I.P Craig Mack, forever got the flava in ears

RIP to Craig Mack.
What the? If you look at when he first came out (commercially anyways), he was underrated. Might not have had the over the top persona of some of his fellow label mates, but still, he brought some attention to Bad Boy. RIP man. Damn.
“Project Funk Da World” was a good album, his second, not so much. But “Flava In Ya Ear” and “Get Down” are classic hip hop tracks. RIP Craig.
DAMN! I feel bad for craig mack. Anytime a real hip hop head dies its not a good day. One love to craig mack and his family. R.I.P. Thank You Craig Mack 4 Flavor In Ya Ear. It was a banga!
Damn R.I.P
He’s underrated, had a good flow. RIP
RIP MC EZ, “Zoom, Zoom, Zoom, Zoom-Za-Zoom-Za-Zoom”
Sad to hear. Had two classic banga’s when growing as a kid in flava in ya ear and get down. Heard he was getting close to God before he passed, hopefully God forgives him. Rip
This was the bad news of today RIP Craig Mack !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gone way to soon !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How did he pass?
But that Future Police Officer shirt BIG was rockin…. #prophecy
Sad news. Always respected Craig Mack. He didn’t have the bravado of other rappers of his era, but very skilled mc, great lyrically, and quality cuts across the board.
