Ford Allows Parents to Block Sirius’ Hip Hop Nation

Will Smith said it two decades ago and it looks like it’s still true today, “Parents just don’t understand.” Ford has announced plans to allow parents to block sixteen Sirius radio channels. Some of the channels which can be blocked are Howard Stern, Playboy, Raw Dog Comedy, and Hip Hop Nation.

Ford’s McKey system allows parents to control several different features of the car including speed and radio volume. The move to block content is, in Ford’s opinion, just another safety measure. Ford’s Safety Planning and Strategy Manager  Andy Sarkisian said, “There’s a lot of mature-content programming out there, and it could be somewhat of a distraction for less-mature ears.”

A full list of the blockable channels was not available but it will interesting to see if Hip Hop Nation is the only music channel considered “distracting” to young drivers when it is far from the only musical genre with explicit lyrics and adult themes.

      1. ha ha ha, if your into generic sounds and rhymes.

Ps. this news is bullshit. Really, these are “distracting”? You know how much other shit I do in the car is more distracting than just “listening” to music. bs. whatever.

    1. a company that cant make a police vehicle that doesnt blow up, cant supply reliable tire ( which has resulted in multiple deaths, has an acronym Found On Road Dead, and had to received a bail out from fans of Howard Stern, Playboy, Raw Dog Comedy, and Hip Hop Nation just to stay afloat after a half century of abusing labor laws SHOULD NEVER…and i repeat NEVER try to censor the American public. FORD go kill urself!

      1. You do know Ford doesnt make tires right?

Ford was the one car company that didnt recieve a bailout from the government and is turning a bigger prophet than the two companies that did recieve bailouts.

of the american car companies Ford is the most reliable and finished tied with Lexus or BMW I believe for highest customer satisfaction.

get your head out of your ass when you speak because all we can hear is shit

      2. I appreciate the concern which is been rose. The things need to be sorted out because it is about the individual but it can be with everyone. I like this particular article It gives me an additional input on the information around the world Thanks a lot and keep going with posting such information.

    2. Damn… everyone here is a dumbass, It’s just a feature “safety” for younger kids, same shit thats on tv’s the “v” Chip that allows you to block xx and shit like that (thats why they mention playboy, Howard stern etc), damn Everyone on FORD’S nutz for that? The way this article describes it is doo doo just trying to drag or attach hip hop to it….

    3. Yo this aint a big deal. It’s not like their picking what stations they’re blocking, it’s just what Sirius labeled as explicit. It’s not like they’re always blocked out either, it’s just parents option to keep their kids in check. Damn free speech is one thing but let parents be parents

    4. It’s not just hip hop. A punk rock station is on the list as well as a metal station. From what I read it would block the stations all the time like a cable plan without the premium channels.

    5. So they give parents an option to block material that they don’t want their children exposed to at a young age. Big deal? It covers anything with explicit content, not just hip-hop. This article is deceiving because it implies that Ford is wrong for doing this. It’s a fucking option, it doesn’t force anybody to do anything.

    6. Great feature. If I had one, I wouldn’t want my 7 year old daughter listening to “The Whisper Song” on the radio.

It’s not censoring; it’s the same reason movies get “R” ratings and if you are underage you have to be with someone over 17 to see it.

I see nothing wrong with this. Will it stop me from bumping Rap? No. So let the parents who don’t want their kids learning the misogynistic, materialistic, drug and sex-filled crap that makes up most rap (which I love, but i can love it because I’m older) block those stations.

    7. You guys are idiots, but some commentators shed some light on the issue. LOL at not wanting your kid to listen to “The Whisper Song” very true. This article is misleading (surprise?)

      1. You mean DX posted a misleading article just to get views? *sarcasm*

just more proof of the crapper this website is going down.

this has become nothing more than a gossip and rumor site.

    8. This site is just looking for attention…. its just an option for parents to block innapropriate channels for kids. who cares? this site makes it seem like they’re discriminating hiphop. theyre doing it to 15 other channels, so who cares, waste of 5 minutes of my life.
