Flavor Flav recently went viral for his range as a musician, from slapping the bass to playing the piano, and he’s now shed some light on a fellow creative’s hidden flexibility.

On Sunday (November 12), the American Group Travel Awards ceremony took place in Florida’s Boca Raton Resort. This year, the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital benefit honored the Public Enemy co-founder with the World Hospitality Award.

Oscar winner Cuba Gooding Jr. was also present at the gathering, during which he presented the rap veteran with the award and even hit the dancefloor to show off some moves.

The 64-year-old Hip Hop pioneer shared a recording of the rare moment on Instagram soon after, captioning it: “MY BOY N DA HOOD CUBA GOODING JR,!! Y’all didn’t know he could get down like that,,, but when Me & Chuck were starting out, Cuba was a break dancer in the 1984 Summer Olympics Opening Ceremony.”

Diverting from what he’s best known for hasn’t always worked in Flavor Flav’s favor. Though he rarely defends his actions, the New York legend recently offered an explanation for a move that fans have been trolling him for online.

In late October, the PE rapper was invited to the Atlanta Hawks vs. Milwaukee Bucks basketball game, during which he got behind the microphone and sang the United States national anthem.

Despite his deep track record of unusual antics, he went on to reveal that the performance came from a place of sincerity and personal admiration for those who serve the country.

“It may seem odd for Flavor Flav, a member of Public Enemy to do the National Anthem. But I had family that served in the United States military and I wanted to honor them,” he wrote on Twitter the day after the broadcast.

He continued: “I had family that fought in World War 2. My dad was in the army. They fought for the land that we live on, and some of them didnt make it back. So when I was singing it, I was thinking about them and the advancements we have made in our community that I can perform the anthem. [American flag emoji]”
