Ferg has been on fire of late, and he has now released a new freestyle over a beat that samples one of Anita Baker’s 90s classics.

On Monday (June 3), the New York City native dropped “More Than U Know Freestyle.” The bar heavy joint borrows from the R&B and jazz singer’s song of the same name, which was released as part of the Grammy-winning album Compositions in 1990.

The A$AP Mob spitter tips his hat to the veteran musician as he opens the joint with: “Turtle neck with the blazer, bumpin’ Anita Baker/ ODO frames, I pulled out the Mauri gators/ Yeah, we do it major, chicks flown in from Asia.”

As for Baker, she recently fulfilled Victoria Monét’s wish after nearly two years with some high praise.

Back in January, the Rapture hitmaker responded to an early 2022 tweet by the California vocalist that reads: “I wanna make a classic love song that Anita Baker would be proud of.”

“You’ve already done it,” she said. “‘How Does It Feel’ is a melodic masterpiece. Congratulations on all your well deserved nominations & accolades & keeping R&B in your world/your generation.”

“I love you to the stars and I thank you for these flowers! I’m in awe. Hope to hug you soon.”

Victoria Monét’s most recent release, Jaguar II, received a 4.4 out of 5 score in a stellar review from HipHopDX‘s Nina Hernandez.

“Each and every choice she makes feels deliberate — from the dancehall turn with Buju Banton (“Party Girls”) to the funky ballad tribute to her adopted hometown with personal idols Earth, Wind & Fire (“Hollywood”),” she wrote.
