Fabolous Feels Kendrick Lamar Responses Have Become “An Attention Thing”

Following the release of Big Sean’s “Control” and the now notorious Kendrick Lamar verse that came with the song, numerous emcees were quick to respond to K-Dot’s verse whether they were mentioned on the song or not.

Among the first to release their response track was Brooklyn lyricist Joell Ortiz with “Outta Control.” While Ortiz may have been quick to let loose his record, another Brooklyn emcee carefully considered a lyrical response to Kendrick’s “Control” verse, but opted against it.

While speaking with Vlad TV, Fabolous commented on the verse and the “mixed feelings” that came with it. Rather than fire back with a record of his own, the rapper instead did a little research on Kendrick’s bars and even chopped it up with a few OG’s in regards to the song.

“You know I had mixed feelings. At first I thought it was—something that he shouldn’t have said,” Fab revealed. “You have to address it, but after speaking to some of the OG’s and getting some research behind it and figuring it out, I had more of an understanding of it. On the surface, everybody just was in shock…The king of New York was a little shaky, but like I said I got a little research behind it. I heard it was Kurupt’s line before his…I almost jumped the gun. I’m not gon’ lie. I kinda felt it out. An OG also told me that if you do, do it on your time when it works for you.”

Fabolous later went on to speak on the surplus of “Control” responses turning “into an attention thing” and becoming almost circus-like.

“Sometimes I feel like it turns into an attention thing,” he explained. “Like ‘Alright, this is the big talk of Hip Hop right now. Let me jump on it.’ You know what I’m saying? So, it got a little tainted to me. So, that was also a reason in my decision. And it was a few things that slowed me down.”

Released earlier in the month, “Control” features guest verses from Kendrick Lamar and Jay Electronica and garnered quick attention thanks to a Kendrick verse which called out Drake, J. Cole, Wale and a handful of other emcees. The No I.D.-produced record will not be featured on Big Sean’s upcoming Hall Of Fame LP.

While Big Sean’s sophomore effort is set for release on August 27, Fabolous is currently at work completing his next album, Loso’s Way 2. After numerous delays, it’s still unclear when the project will be released.

    1. I’ve been covering all the hype on “control” and now Fab wants to come out and talk about consulting OGs when you’ve been in this game, real g’s don’t expose what they know. atleast all this hype is exposing everyone’s true colors, so far papoose, ortiz and cassidy in that order.

    2. Only people fucking with Fan in NY are from BK… Should’ve responded the day you decided to tweet if their is a studio open. 2 weeks later, nobody wants to hear that shit now! You politically correct ass dick ridding rappers is why the city looks soft! This nigga gets no more play! Puts out a remix to Biggies song and a week later he sits back while another west coast nigga kicks over the building again. FOH!

    3. not gonna lie little disappointed the 3 heavyweights in NY fab, jay and nas didnt come back.. he just shitted on NY and nothing.

      1. nas already spoke on it, you should expand your rap music knowledge beyond hhdx

if you knew rap music history you would know jay will throw a subliminal when he’s ready or if he wants to entertain it

fab is no nyc rap heavyweight rap music rookie on the internet

the consensus is if you ain’t got no bars heavier than budden did, then don’t do it

lemme ask, what rappers represent your hometown imho

    4. ah fuck Kendrick who gives a shit lookin for attention one good album an he considers himself a legend ….crack head

FUCK YO SITE NIGGA FUCK YO SITE
FUCK YO SITE NIGGA FUCK YO SITE

    5. Kendrick a great rapper but he’s talkin out his ass…A king of N.Y. makes no sense today…The internet killed that region reppin shit back in 07-08.

    6. It is a bit lame responding when nobody brought your name into it either. Is there any word on what Kendrick has said about it? If I was him I would be laughing my ass off at these clowns. Loso got it right. Hungry ass niggas biting for some attention.

    7. I just came from my O.G. meeting this morning

Crazy Dogg brought croissants and hot cocoa. He told me that I should ignore the kendrick song and make a hit record. You know like the ones i used to do. He said i should get a chick on the hook, i was thinking kelly rowland.

The O.G.s then played some tennis on my Nintendo Wii. those guys are so cree’

    8. If you really look at it the only niggas to
respond are has-beens, wanna-be’s, and never
will be’s. It was a good verse on an average
track, nothing more or less. Buddens and Lupe
the only ones who might sell 50k copies. Maybe!

The rest of these dope lyricist will sit at home
on Grammy Night, with with the blunt and a mean mug.

      1. Those has been’s have logged more time in the game than the rookie, so it only makes sense that they would take offense to a truly stupid line.

    9. He would have responded, but then he remembered that he was an average rapper who got lucky because he knew DJ Clue….LOL

      1. nigga fuck you 50. you owe me I fucking saved you stupid. hey Buck heard what happened to you in Chicago and faggot Game keep talking shit oh you gon be under like yo friend. Banks where the fuck was 50 when you got hit in front the Diamond Gym

      2. fuck you 50. if my boss says ride, I’mma ride. We was the Unit but you fucked it up.
        Silverback Guerilla…Guerilla Unit killa

    10. No need to write a whole 16 about it when you can kill him with one line. When you write a whole song about one verse you are un-neccesarily giving the verse life. Say your 2 cents and keep it moving, if you were going to reply, you should’ve first day like Ortiz did, anything else and you look thirsty and tired.

    11. To be King of New York, you gotta be on the Forbes list, you gotta have a bad bitch and you gotta go platinum before your Album drop.

      1. Nigga I am New York fuck ya niggas. I move units. I got books, cds, dvds, porn, all types of shit nigga haha. Its the Unit

      2. Curtissssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

show some courtesy Curtis!!!! How much did the Mobb sell?

    12. No disrespect but black folks dont know SHT called LOGIC. Listen, if NO ONE (including you) wanna FESS UP and TELL then how the fck are the police supposed to know anything and how the f*ck are you or anybody else gonna cry about justice?

Nggas talk all that snitch stuff when its another statistic but when its their family member or their man they wanna cry justice. Look, nggas in LA KNOW Orlando anderson killed 2pac but no one wanna fess up cuz theyll get labelled a snitch. Instead they rather go at Funk Flex or Suge Knight and use them as scape goats and act tough with them on the Internet or via records.

How is the police gonna lock any of these criminals up if nobody is fessin up? And then when the feds DO lock n*ggas up y’all cry the police is lockin’ brothas/rappers up. I feel sorry for african americans, y’all have the most fukd up mentality out in the world, but yet still think its worse overseas LMAO. I live in both places btw and yes im black!

    13. rappers dont respond to other rappers cause they dont want people to pay more attention to them? Wow Hip Hop has gone soft as fuck. Who gives a fuck dude. Shits wack, games wack.

      1. loso if u didnt know so a og himself he real ace boog he flip datop before he been rat da wrong ones ya hear meh even if it poppin he got rock out where he be at & uk where he be at dat joint was happenin so he gotta pop it off & u askin why i mean ya mean he poppin off dat jump off ya mean thats happenin how it could be if you from ny you reppin even wit the og slangin like the said they would for real. ya feel me?

    14. I still don’t understand why dudes are so bent out of shape about Kendrick Lamar’s verse? It was a competitive rhyme, he even said he got love for the MCs he called out. Its no different than you ballin with your boys and you telling them that you gonna slaughter on the court. It should just make you bring your A game on the court. Fab is just responding because his name wasn’t mention in K Dot’s verse. He’s talking about doing research & talking to OGs and all this other bull; why? Respond if you’re gonna respond and keep it moving.

      1. i agree with you. You wanna know who these real MCs can respond, especially the ones coming from NYC??

Make a banger, steal his radio play and sell some records. If K Dot want to call himself the king then so be it, but someone has to take the crown if they see a problem.

Complaining on twitter and have an OG conference is not gonna take the crown. why would dude have an OG round table conference to talk about another dude’s verse on song? Fab is giving him credit just by admitting this.
